2007 Team Today Funding Project Goals:
1: Training Support
Goal: $16,000
Raise $16,000 to help support 4 men and 4 women USST and non-USST athletes with $2000 stipends. Receipts showing that the money was spent getting to or at training camps must be shown. Athletes chosen by Team Today staff through an application process.
2: Non-USST World Cup / Continental cup support
Goal: $5000
Raise $5000 to help two men and two women who are not on the USST attend either the World Cup (if qualified) or the Continental Cup. The two athletes of each sex will be chosen by the Team Today staff though an application process.
3: Team Today / (sponsor) Club Kilometer Contest
Goal: $5500
Goal: bring the US Ski Team, the US Ski Industry, The clubs, athletes and coaches and Team Today together to raise the level of preparation in the US. By emphasizing preparation rather than just results we can reward the club that has their athletes preparing the most. While “most” does not always mean “best” it is a good step in the right direction. Rules will help to dictate that the training is “good” – there must be one off day per week for each athlete, athletes must do intensity at least once a week, and athletes must list one technique goal per week. How: create a contest for accumulating ski-specific training volume. Junior athletes turn in the hours they train on rollerskis and skis at the end of each week to their coach. The coach turns that in to Team Today. Team Today posts a running tally of hours for each participating club as well as for top male and female athletes. On Nov. 30th the club which can collect the most number of hours on rollerskis and skis per athlete will be announced winner. In addition the leading man and woman will be named. Rewards: Team Today runs the contest and will donate $3000 to the first place club, $1500 to second place and $700 to third, $300 to fourth. The US Ski Team will recognize the leading club and athletes and will also reward all athletes who accumulate a pre-determined number of rollerski/ski training hours. Title Sponsor needed. Actual contest rules forthcoming.
4: Education stipend
Goal: $5000
To raise $5000 to support and encourage USST and non-USST athletes in an educational pursuit along side of their current training program. $1000 stipends are awarded for specific projects articulated in the application. An athlete may apply for more than one stipend. Projects are chosen by the Team Today staff through the application process.
